Project Creator & Teacher

October 2016 – December 2017

Built with: Electronics, ARMmbed, Servomotors, Sensors

Description:

This project was created with the objective of promoting STEM to low-income students from kindergarten and elementary public schools.

We were able to go to different schools located in little towns in our state, where we performed around 52 demo shows, reaching up to 1400 students.

Plus, some of the interested students took different courses to learn more about mechanics, programming and electronics.

DEMO SHOW

We created a presentation were we explained briefly basic concepts, like what a robot was, its different parts (boards, batteries, sensors), and how they could create its own.

Plus, we showed some of the videos of the projects we did at university, like the CubeSAT.

The last part of the presentation was to display some of the robots that we made, and we let them play with some of them while we explained the components of each robot.

At the end we gave them a paper toy with the shape of a robot and our contact if they wanted to know more.

PRESENTATIONS

Courses:

For the kids that were more interested, we created three different levels of courses, that lasted around 15 hours each. At the end, they built a robot identifying its parts.

Level 1:

  • Physics (Newton Laws), Electronics (Ohm’s Law), Programming (Algorithms)
  • They built a Light Follower Mouse

Level 2:

  • Physics (Simple Machines), Electronics (Electronic Components and Sensors), Programming (Loops and Snap4Arduino)
  • They built a Helicopter with Arduino

Level 3:

  • Physics (Force and Motion), Electronics (Advanced Electronic Components), Programming (Conditionals)
  • They added functionality to their Helicopter with sensors
